Symptoms

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) can start slowly and develop without symptoms over a number of years. CKD may not be detected until it has progressed to the point where your kidney function is quite low. In the early stages of CKD, there may not be any symptoms at all because the body is usually able to deal with reduced kidney function.
